What to Expect During Your First Visit
We can’t wait to support you on your journey to a happy, healthy you. Seeing one of our dietitians for the first time can be an enlightening experience, often different from what many expect – but in a positive way! Each session is tailored to your specific needs so is likely to look different to someone else’s session. During your initial appointment we conduct a thorough assessment not just looking at what and how much you eat but also why, where, when and consider all the factors influencing your food choices. Some people describe us as nutrition counsellors as we spend lots of time talking with you and exploring challenges and solutions. At the end of the session you leave with a clearer idea of what you can do to help achieve your goals – this may be some changes to trial, recipes to experiment with, things to observe or tasks to complete. Most clients don’t leave with a completely structured meal plan as we know there is so much more to eating well and maintaining it than following what is written on a piece of paper. Every step of the way we collaborate with you in developing strategies or a plan that aligns with YOUR goals and allows you to focus on what truly matters in life.
Review appointments
Our review sessions are tailored to your needs and include both short touch-base sessions and longer in-depth appointments. Whether you are needing accountability and quick answers or time to unpack eating behaviours and more complex health concerns, our follow-up appointments give you exactly what you need.
Telehealth appointments
We understand that making it to an in-person appointment can be difficult sometimes. Telehealth including phone or video call sessions are available on request.
Frequently asked questions
Is a referral required?
A referral from any healthcare practitioner is desirable but not essential. If you do not have a referral please email info@launcestondietetics.com.au with an appointment request including some information regarding your needs so we can ensure you are booked with the most suitable practitioner.
can you accomodate special requests?
We understand that appointments can sometimes feel intimidating and uncomfortable. If there's anything we can do to help you feel more at ease, please let us know by adding a note to your booking request. Accomodations may include dim lighting, reduced eye contact, sensory/fidget tools, quiet room, bringing a support animal or service dog, written communication only. Your comfort is our priority, so don’t hesitate to share your needs with us.
can i bring my child to my appointment
Please don’t let a lack of childcare stop you from making an appointment. We are kid friendly and understand how tricky the juggle can be! We are happy for you to bring your little ones with you and have plenty of things to help keep them entertained during your appointment. If the appointment is to discuss your child’s nutrition needs we may suggest an initial ‘parent only’ appointment to get some background information before we meet your child. If you are unsure whether it might be suitable to bring your child please reach out to us.
Will I get weighed?
In our practice, weighing clients is not routine unless clinically necessary, as research indicates that weight alone does not reflect overall health. We adopt a weight-neutral, health-centered approach, recognising the diversity of body shapes and sizes. Our focus is on helping you reconnect with your body's natural hunger and fullness cues and fostering a balanced relationship with food. This approach is crucial for promoting positive body image, preventing disordered eating, and achieving sustainable, long-term health improvements. While weight loss may occur as a result of lifestyle changes, it is not our primary goal or focus.
will i get a meal plan?
We generally don’t recommend fully structured meal plans because we recognise that achieving and sustaining healthy eating habits involves more than simply adhering to instructions on paper. Traditional meal plans tend to be rigid and inflexible, often making them unrealistic and ineffective for long-term success.
Will I get in trouble for eating the wrong foods?
Central to our approach is a dedication to providing a safe and non-judgmental environment for everyone. We understand that each person's relationship with food and health is unique. Therefore, we approach each client with empathy and understanding, free from any preconceived notions or biases.
What if i need to reschedule/cancel?
You will receive a reminder message a few days prior to your appointment. Please contact us as soon as possible on 6709 8338 or email info@launcestondietetics.com.au if you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment. A cancellation fee of 50% of the sessional price may occur for non-attendance or if an appointment is cancelled or changed with less than 24 hours notice unless this is due to extenuating circumstances.
